J2: What's the Word?

  • As a student MS Word has been an application that I have learned the insides and out of. I literally use this application for most of my assignments, if not all throughout my entire school career. I'm actually pretty positive in any situation that requires me to type there after, I'll probably still use this application. I use this application to type term papers, daily homework assignments, as well as just checking the word count on my discussion posts for my online classes. I've seen previous professors use MS Word in numerous ways, in most cases they use Word to type assignment rules as well as other things and attach the word documents to the class modules as well as assignments.

  • Within my entire school years from about the 5th grade up until now and i'm sure moving forward into the working field I will deal with copyright and fair use of materials. In school I've had teachers who have tied in a lecture with a movie that either helped the students further understand what was being taught or even was the basis of what we were being taught. I've instances when my self would have a presentation and would add clips of movies, commercials, and even little cool photos and gifs that went along well with what I was presenting at the times. As a future I don't think there is anything to actually deal beyond actually making sure that the credit is given to the originator of the work that is being shown. I would expect the same from my students as long as the work is correctly sited and the work gives credit to it originator and I can still hear the voice of the student within the work; there should be no problem at all.

The technology implementation issues I chose were Cyber-bullying, Academic honesty, and Digital divide. A solution for Cyber-bulling that could be implemented within my classroom would be showing students the consequences and the effects of these actions; as well making students aware of anything you wouldn't have the guts to say to someone elses' face should definitely not be said behind a computer screen. A solution for Academic honesty, would be a friendly classroom motto: "If you didn't say it...quote it" and " If you didn't write it..cite it" this as well as teaching the students the serious consequences that they could academically face when taking someone else's work. Digital divide, could be situated by just simply getting the other students involved. Although the students may not have access doesn't make them incapable of learning, in fact it may give them that extra push to go that extra mile to work harder. I would also limit homework assignments that would require research at times to accommodate the students or allow them time in the classroom to do so.

    1. I like your solution to cyber-bullying and how you would show the the consequences and effects of cyber-bullying. I feel that the best way to show someone something that directly doesn't have an effect on them, is to show them the effects of what those affected are actually going through. I feel that this issue is so important when setting a good classroom setting because of the digital age that we live in today. With great power, comes great responsibility especially when it relates to social media. Your take on plagiarism is very similar to mine, but I have never heard those phrases that you included but they are cute and easy to remember, so I am a fan. The digital divide solution is simple but so effective, involvement is key for understanding in my opinion.

      1. I actually made up those phrases! I thought it was funny and quirky. Who said doing right can't be fun.
